As part of an historic Maine summer estate, The Carriage House sits at the side of a large field extending to the water’s edge. Stairs lead to rocky ledges and a natural wading pool carved into the rocks. Built in 1897, the estate was a wedding present to a relative of President Taft. The original Carriage House, tastefully converted to a guest house, uses open space design with bleached barn board interior, provides all the comforts for today’s vacationers, and sits privately apart from the main house.
The Carriage House is fully furnished, complete with linens. A well-stocked kitchen, bath with shower, and open dining/living area are downstairs, while upstairs are two large sky-lighted bedrooms, with a queen bed and 2 twins, all with excellent, comfortable, new mattresses. There are two working fireplaces and a forced air furnace, color cable TV with DVD, new washer/dryer, phone, microwave, grill, picnic table, 2 mountain bikes, seasoned firewood, and screened room at water's edge.
This very private location is within a 10-minute drive to the many restaurants, museums, entertainment and shops in nearby Rockland or a 20-minute walk to the nearest State Park and beach. Golf, tennis, hiking, horseback-riding, kayaking, and coastal excursions are readily accessible.
